Best Sugar Cookie Recipe?

,
Paleo Drinks :

There is nothing like a great sugar cookie recipe. Don't buy the roll of Pillsbury Dough, you can make a superb cookie that will remind you of the days when Grandma made them.

Best Sugar Cookie Recipe?

Grandma used to sit by the fire and drink her tea and Grandpa used to sip his coffee made from his French Press, before it was trendy. I loved seeing them sit there enjoying the day. When we walked in the house there were smells coming from the kitchen you just couldn't imagine. The sweet smell of warm sugar cookies invaded your senses. You knew today was going to be a treat.

It was a tradition that we enjoyed every year. The kitchen was filled with flour storms and the counters were sticky from Buttercream frosting. We had tin cookie cutters spread all over the table. I liked the boot best, my sister liked the angel.

Grandma had a special way with those cookies and she handed down the recipe to me. I was to teach my kids how to make these wonderful holiday sweets. It wouldn't be Christmas time without this recipe of Yummy cookies.
I am publishing it because I want you to enjoy the best sugar cookie recipe ever.

Grandma's Favorite Sugar Cookie

1 cup white sugar

1 cup powdered sugar

1 cup butter

2 eggs beaten

1 tsp cream of tarter

1 tsp baking soda

1 tsp vanilla

4 cups flour

½ cup corn oil

Cream the sugars and butter together. Mix the beaten eggs, vanilla and corn oil, in. Add the dry ingredients .Mix all the ingredients well and chill overnight.
Bake at 375 F for 8-10 minutes....DO NOT OVERCOOK.

We used to make the funniest colors to decorate the cookies, most of them looked inedible. They tasted heavenly, though. We figured if we made them look gross enough, the adults would leave them alone. We were wrong. Everyone knew they were Grandma's famous sugar cookies from her handed down recipe book. This page was splattered with all sorts of colors. I have that book now. I love making these cookies with my kids.

Grandma's Favorite Frosting (don't forget the food coloring)

2 cups of powdered sugar

½ cup butter melted

1 ½ T Milk

1 tsp vanilla

Cream sugar, butter and vanilla. Add a small amount of milk (1 to 2 tablespoons). Beat until fluffy. If frosting is too sweet add a little more milk.

Try it this season. Enjoy your family and brew some wonderful tea or coffee and relax. Take the time to make memories with your family or neighbors or friends.

The Importance of a Paleo Diet Eating Plan

,
Paleo Drinks :

Are you someone who is not very new to dieting? Probably, you are one who has already tried several diets before but ended up cheating - or most likely, just quit. It is also possible that you are someone who is just starting to check out what the best diets available out there are. However, just like many, you might find yourself apprehensive and doubtful of how can you actually keep up with the diet. Are you determined enough or, at least, knowledgeable enough? If you are thinking of going for the Paleo diet plan, you should ensure that you know everything there is to know about the diet. And eventually, you should research well on how you can come up with a Paleo diet eating plan that you can keep up to.

The Importance of a Paleo Diet Eating Plan

One of the common problems that dieters face is the mere fact that they do not completely know what they're getting themselves into. Most would just start on a diet thinking that they already know everything but end up being sidetracked from their goal little by little. Most often than not, quitting is a result of an ineffective planning of meals. At some point, dieters would find that they have nothing to eat for a meal time and because they are already hungry, they would eat what food is available - with the promise that they will catch up next time. However, if such happens again, they will just realize that they are being distracted farther away from their goals. This will eventually push them to quit dieting and just go back to their old eating habits.

Moreover, "cheating" every once in a while is not totally wrong. You may have social gatherings to attend to which may obligate you to eat foods not recommended in the Paleo diet. But, as much as possible, you should plan your meals on regular days. Even if you would need to cheat, you should also ensure to watch what you eat - try to balance everything that you will put on your plate. Although you may cheat at times, it does not mean that you are allowed to binge.

In order for you to stay away from distractions as much as possible, it is best for you to plan your meals a week ahead. You can check out different Paleo recipes online or base your meals on sample Paleo meal plans. This way, you can prepare your foods accordingly - you can bring your homemade lunch in the office, snack on healthy fruit dices or nuts and drink a moderate serving of fresh juice. Moreover, if you are to attend a party on the weekend, set your mind on making a balanced plate and go back to your meal plan the day after the party.

For you to succeed in the Paleo diet and for you to reap its health benefits, it is absolutely necessary to take the time and plan your Paleo meals appropriately and strategically.

Carb Diet Cycling - Lose Fat, Not Muscle

,
Paleo Drinks :

What does Edward Cullen and Insulin levels have in common? Nothing really but you would think vampires have an appreciation for the effects of carbohydrates on blood sugar levels!

Carb Diet Cycling - Lose Fat, Not Muscle

Anyways to look as lean as Robert Pattinson does for the Twilight series, you might want to try Carb Cycling to loose fat but not muscle along the way.

So shoveling breads, cereals, and pastas into yourself as if it's a race to the finish, is not the answer.

Eating meals or snacks like this which are high in carbohydrates will send your blood glucose level into outer space.

To counter for this rapid rise, your pancreas secretes the hormone insulin into the bloodstream which lowers the levels of blood glucose.

This insulin level caused by excess carbohydrates will ultimately promote the accumulation of body fat. OOPS and that's what we don't want!

In other words, if we eat too many carbohydrates, we're sending a hormonal message to store fat.

However, regulating your blood sugar level is the most effective way to maintain your fat-burning capacity.

It also essential for good health and lowers the risk of diseases such as Type 2 diabetes and heart disease.

A delicate balance of diet, insulin production and physical activity is necessary for optimal blood glucose levels.

With the onset of modern civilisation, our physiology suddenly was asked to digest and metabolize larger amounts of sugar and starch especially refined sugars. I follow my version of the "Paleo" diet to minimise these consequences).

But if we are unable to utilise the amount of carbohydrates we eat, certain symptoms will develop.

The problem is that insulin is essentially a storage hormone, evolved to put aside excess carbohydrate calories in the form of fat in case of future famine.

Not only do increased insulin levels tell the body to store carbohydrates as fat, they also tell it not to release any stored fat.

This makes it impossible for you to use your own stored body fat for energy. The excess carbohydrates in your diet not only make you fat, they make sure you stay fat. What a Bummer!

Insulin also causes hunger. As blood sugar increases following a carbohydrate meal, insulin rises with the eventual result of lower blood sugar. This results in hunger, amazingly often only a couple of hours after a meal.

Cravings, usually for sweets, are frequently part of this cycle, leading you to resort to snacking, often on more carbohydrates.

PICK THE RIGHT CARBS

The best fuel source to use throughout the day are complex starches (carbs). These provide sustained energy minimising sugar spikes and stabilises blood sugar levels and lets your workout last longer and retain intensity.

These starches will break down slowly and the body doesn't have any chance to store body fat and rather be stored as muscle glycogen.

Complex carbs will minimise muscle catabolism (breakdown) and ensure muscle anabolism (growth).

Examples of complex carbs are; yams, sweet potatoes, wild rice, beans, legumes, red potatoes, raw oats.

These will store glycogen and convert to an energy source for your muscles, brain, heart and other organs, along with vegetables, fruit and fibrous grains provide a huge source for anabolic growth.

PRIME TIME - CARB EATING

  • Losing weight without losing muscle is related to maintain blood sugar -insulin levels.
  • Timing is important get it wrong and areas that are affected is sports performance, injury risk, feeling sluggish, increased appetite and slows metabolism.
  • Best times to ingest carbs are in the morning and before and after a workout. These are the times when your muscles need carbohydrates the most.
  • If you workout without carbs then breaking down lean mass for amino acids becomes a real possibility.

Typical Nutrition on Workout Days

Note: The time when carbs are added in the day

7am: 1 cup oatmeal with 2 scoops whey

10 am: 2 Whole eggs, 4 egg whites, 1 piece of toast

12 Noon: 200g chicken breast, 1 piece of fruit, black coffee

2pm: Pre Workout 1/2 cup cottage cheese, 1 medium sweet potato

4pm: Post Workout 2 scoops Whey with chocolate milk, handful of nuts

6pm: 1 can tuna, 2 pieces vegetables

9pm: 170g lean steak, lettuce, green vegetables

PRIME TIME - LOW CARB EATING

  • Carbs fuels your muscles to help with working out then conversely on days you are less active reduce your carb intake and let your body use the existing sugars in your blood.
  • This again is similar to carb cycling which works very well when trying to loose weight. I follow the Eat Stop Eat program to for carb cycling to loose body fat (currently at 8%).

Typical Nutrition on Non Workout Days

Note: The reduction of carbs in the day

7am: 2 scoops whey

10 am: 6 egg whites with lean chicken

12 Noon: 230g chicken breast, green tea

3pm: 1/2 cup cottage cheese

4.30pm: 1/2 cup yogurt

5pm: 1 can tuna, 1 pieces vegetables

8pm: 170g lean steak, 6 stalks asparagus

10pm: 5 hard boiled eggs

FOOD HABITS

Eating protein with each meal is one of the best ways to stabilise blood sugar levels examples are; Lean red meats, fish, chicken, eggs, legumes, nuts, seeds.

Chromium helps to normalise blood sugar levels examples are; broccoli, wholegrain cereals, nuts, mushrooms and soy beans.

Fibre slows absorption of glucose examples are; wholegrain breads and breads, brown rice, legumes, fruit and vegetables.

TIPS

  • Drinking plenty of water is another way to lower blood sugar levels.
  • Drinking at least eight glasses of water per day will also flush harmful toxins from the body, help with weight loss, and keep the skin healthy.
  • Taking Ginseng or adding Cinnamon to food has been shown to regulate blood sugar levels.
  • Never skip a meal, especially breakfast, and eat healthy snacks between meals. Eating frequently prevents hunger pangs and the binges that follow, provides consistent energy, and may be the single most effective way to maintain metabolism efficiency.
  • When you will be away from home or work, plan your snacks and take them along so that you will be able to eat regularly and won't be tempted by junk food.
  • High fibre snacks and meals also help to regulate your blood sugar level. The fibre slows down glucose absorption and your rate of digestion, keeping your blood sugar level more consistent and warding off feelings of hunger.
  • Eating apples and oranges are a better choice than drinking apple and orange juice.
  • Exercise: Try to get 30 to 60 minutes of walking in four to five days a week.
  • An easy way to lower blood sugar levels is to stay fit and healthy. Regular exercise not only helps lower blood sugar levels, but also helps fight infections.
  • Staying active and taking regular exercise can also help with blood pressure problems. Exercise also helps control the body's weight and regulate cholesterol levels.
  • This exercise does not need to be a grueling workout. Thirty minutes of exercise a day, even walking, will help to lower blood sugar levels. Walking to the store instead of taking the car is all that may be necessary to provide you with some much needed exercise. Any extra exercise, including working out in a gym.

Having a balanced diet is not only healthy but ensures that you receive the maximal amount of nutrients which ensures all your bodily functions are able to operate at their fullest potential.

Thanks you for reading this and I hope it assists with your workouts.

Simple No Bake Chocolate Macaroon Recipe

,
Paleo Drinks :

This recipe was a favorite of my sister and I. We loved it when my mom would make these. When we were old enough to cook, the house always smelled like chocolate macaroons. I think we made this recipe about a couple of times a week. They are very easy to make and super yummy to eat! Another thing I like about this recipe is that you don't use a lot of dishes, so clean-up is a breeze as well. These cookies are great if you are in a pinch and need to make something delicious in a hurry. Another great thing is the ingredient list is very short and most things I'm sure you will be able to find in your very own kitchen.

Simple No Bake Chocolate Macaroon Recipe

I hope you enjoy making these macaroons as much as I know you will enjoy eating them.

What you need to make the macaroons:

2 cups granulated sugar

1/2 cup butter

1/2 cup milk

6 tbsp cocoa

1/2 cup fine shredded coconut

3 cups oatmeal

1-2 cookie sheets waxed paper

1. Combine the first four ingredients together in a large pot and bring to a boil for about 2-3 minutes, stirring constantly.

2. Take pot off of stove and add the coconut and oatmeal. Mix until everything is coated.

3. Place on a wax paper lined cookie sheet by heaping tablespoon-fulls. To have these cookies ready quickly, cool in refrigerator, or leave and let cool to room temp.

Enjoy!

Note: You may need to double batch these cookies as they will disappear fast!!!!

All The Lies About Rapid Weight Loss Diets

,
Paleo Drinks :

Ok, I admit. It really is impossible to put ALL the lies about rapid weight loss diets in one article. There is just too much bogus nutrition information around to gather them all. But here are some of the main dieting myths to watch out for...

All The Lies About Rapid Weight Loss Diets

Like you, I wish there really were a miracle diet. "Eliminate body fat and get a great shape without effort! Never be hungry! Be healthy the whole time!" Sounds great. I'd also like to resemble [your favorite movie star] without plastic surgery.

Unfortunately, reality refuses to cater to my fantasies. Rapid weight loss diets don't have to be miserable. But there are always tradeoffs.

Some fad diets tell you to eat nothing but fruit for days, then meats and grains later. Bad idea. Lots of carbs and no protein almost guarantees weight gain.

Yeah, the advocates always have some fancy theory about why it will work, along with some questionable anecdotal evidence. Skepticism is a very good idea here.

Then there are ultra low-carb, ultra-high-protein diets like Atkins or the Paleo diet. They're not harmful, but don't go to extremes. You might see rapid weight loss at first, but it won't last. And, you may suffer other problems (like potential kidney damage).

There are even some way out suggestions, like huge amounts of chocolate. Sure, chocolate does have some good things like antioxidants. But, in most cases, the form they come in also comes with high amounts of sugar and fat.

The basic error of all these rapid weight loss diets is lack of balance. You may lose weight fast, but will you keep it off? Will you damage your health in the process?

You need a certain amount of carbohydrates. They're the body's main source of free energy. Reducing your normal intake (usually more than you need) forces the body to go after fat stored in cells to compensate. You lose body fat.

Good.

But don't go overboard. Starving yourself of carbs slows your body's metabolism down. It becomes harder to lose those subsequent pounds. Also, excess protein can cause a fluid imbalance (making it hard to flush toxins, which build up in the kidneys).

Remember, rapid weight loss, per se, isn't your goal. Gaining 10 lbs of muscle wouldn't necessarily be bad. You want to reduce pounds and keep them off. You want to keep your health while you're doing it. And, even weight loss isn't your primary goal. You want to reduce your body fat percentage, again while optimizing health.

There are plenty of ways to do that. Consume the right amounts of protein, fat, and carbohydrates - and no more. Get the right balance of vitamins and minerals. Don't use food to compensate for anxiety. Exercise moderately.

You'll shed pounds fast, reduce body fat, and get healthy before you know it.

For almost every dieter but the most sedentary, a balanced diet totaling about 1200-1600 calories per day will lead to healthy rapid weight loss.

Instead of sugary juice drinks, have an orange or apple or banana - better still, strawberries or blueberries. (The latter are rich in phytonutrients.) Keep protein in the lead (about 100 g daily), but get some good fats, too (44-78 grams or so).

That's a sensible rapid weight loss diet. No miracle diet needed. And that's no lie.

Crossfit: A Highly Effective Program For Weight Loss

,
Paleo Drinks :

In a standard workout routine you might spend 20 to 40 minutes on aerobics one day. The next day yoga might be the centerpiece with the following day abs the main area to be addressed, and the next day your upper body and so on and so on. Eventually, you'll work your way through all the muscle groups over the period of a week. A small period of time may be spent working on balance and agility, but over all, your progress will be limited and gradual.

Crossfit: A Highly Effective Program For Weight Loss

A Crossfit workout is completely different. You work every major muscle group in your body each time you work out. Routines may only last 20 or 30 minutes but they are relentless and very intense.

Now, what makes these workouts so special? Well, first there's the fact that you get a total body workout with each training session. Imagine progressively pushing every muscle in your body, 20 to 30 minutes a day, every single day of the week. You'll gain:

Strength

Power

Flexibility

Speed

Coordination

Agility

Endurance

Balance

Stamina

In just a few workouts you'll begin to notice not only the changes in your physical appearance but changes to your mental attitude as well. With standard workouts your results are much more gradual, and it could take an extended period of time before a person will notice any physical changes. Standard physical fitness routines rarely challenge an individual's constitution the way a Crossfit WOD (workout of the day) does. This normally does well for an individual's swagger or confidence giving them the feeling they can accomplish significant challenges that life may throw in their path.

A typical Crossfit routine might consist of:

Running while carrying weights followed by intense weight lifting

Running while using dumbbells, followed by jumping rope and then weight lifting

Shotgun-fast, multiple repetitions of squats, sit-ups and pull-ups

While Crossfit training is much more than a basic weight loss program, it does help to adopt healthy eating habits to speed up the weight loss process. Completely eliminating sugar from your diet is a great first step. Avoid fried foods. You should also reduce the calories you get from starches, like potatoes. The best bet is to eat plenty of green leafy vegetables, lots of nuts and seeds, and only lean meats. To discover more about healthy eating pick up a book on the Paleo Diet, which is highly endorsed by the Crossfit community. Finally, remember to drink plenty of water.

Crossfit workouts are probably the most effective workouts for weight loss because they create a fast, intense metabolic burn that makes it possible for a person's body to continue to burn fat for hours after each workout. With a Crossfit program a person will burn fat faster than they would with a standard workout routine. Add in a healthy diet and the fat burning power is drastic and almost immediate.

Eat, Sleep and Play to Be Young and Fit

,
Paleo Drinks :

People have never been fatter, sicker and weaker than they are now. Whenever I travel to the US I am blown away at how many people are fat and grossly out of shape. Canada is getting there too but seems to be a decade behind or so. I was in Walmart here in Calgary the other day and literally became worried about Western Civilization.

Eat, Sleep and Play to Be Young and Fit

Why are fat kids drinking slurpies while their parents load the grocery cart with cheap processed poison a common site now? Obesity and diabetes are epidemic in North America. Why? Unfortunately the common response to being obese seems to be taking drugs and then as a last resort surgery. It drives me crazy!

The solution to the obesity epidemic is so simple and free that I don't understand why this is even a problem. Hey, I was fat too, and after a little reading and self searching I have never struggled with my weight again. All we have to do is look back before our world changed and conspired to make us fat and weak for profit. Look back at how people lived before being 30% body fat was considered normal.

Before the industrial revolution:

Eat
People ate unprocessed foods. They did eat a lot of grains, but their grains were actually wholesome and were eaten to fill a hungry belly more than anything else. Meat was craved, and veggies were always beside them.

Do not listen to anything you ever see on TV about food, especially supposed health food. If it comes in a wrapper and has any chemicals in it, it is not healthy or natural, despite what Kelloggs and General Mills would have you believe.

I am a big believer in the Paleo diet and as a result think you should only eat what nature has provided humans for thousands of years.

Eat This:

* natural or organic meat
* tons of veggies
* some fruit
* nuts
* natural full fat yogurt
* berries
* fish, especially fatty omega-3 fish like wild salmon

Do not eat this:

* grains
- don't believe the hype, even the most natural grains are filled with phytoestrogens and phytades which actually prevent the absorption of nutrients
* milk
- it is basically chemical sugar water now, it is so far removed from what comes out of a cow that I don't think anyone should drink it
* anything processed (in a package or wrapper)
* alcohol, obviously
* sugar
- it promotes cancer in the body and actually feeds cancer cells
* corn
- it is a grain not a veggie
- corn derivatives like high-fructose corn syrup are killing our children with obesity and as a result diabetes

I should mention that nobody is perfect when it comes to eating well, especially me. The idea is to stay as true to a natural diet as possible so when you do screw up at a party you are not going to fall into a diabetic coma.

Sleep
Before TV and computers do you know what people did when it got dark? They slept! They slept for about 10 hours a day compared to our current norm of 5-7.

In fact, Sleep is so important to weight loss and physical health that preventing it was a favorite torture method of the Soviets. Your body needs sleep to recover from damage and stress, it is how you repair yourself. Forget about late night TV and go to bed early. You will lose weight and feel better almost immediately.

Did you know that Cuban Olympic weight lifters used to sleep 9 hours a day and then nap for 3 hours? I leaned that from Dan John's site. They did this to recover from the stress of training and to keep their weight down to stay competitive in their class. I actually tried this for a few weeks a while back and never felt better. It was unreal!

Exercise/Play
Imagine a world of no cars. A world where if you needed to go across town you actually walked there, even if it took a few days. Maybe you rode a horse instead, but that is still fairly physical. Not to mention that they actually had to physically work each and every day just to survive. From hunting to building to carrying things, people burned some serious calories just living. Today people sit on their asses all day and then might hit the gym for an hour or so before going back to sitting. Unless you are moving for 8 hours a day you are sedentary, so stop thinking your 3x a week gym schedule should be getting you lean!

You need to train hard and often to really be physically fit. Unless you are an elite athlete you should vary your activities as much as possible. I recommend six days a week of good solid activity and one day a week of pure rest. Our lives are incredibly sedentary so six days a week of varied activity will not be too much as long as you are sleeping and eating correctly. Before you surf along to a website that tells you it is ok to not exercise often and you can have abs too, remember that you can make exercise fun. It doesn't have to be a chore. Here is some direction:

* Sprints, 1-2 time a week
* Lift heavy stuff, 3 time a week
* Lift light stuff for high reps, 2-3 times a week
* Long slow cardio, hiking or biking, not jogging, 1 time a week
* Play, 1-4 times a week
- sports, goof around on a jungle gym, just have fun with your workouts!
* Take the stairs
* Walk or bike to work
* Go for a walk at lunch time
* Find excuses to exercise without exercising!

To sum it up, being healthy and looking like it too is really simple.

Eat a diet consisting of natural foods that are high in nutrition and low in empty calories.

Sleep as much as possible, 10 hours is a good start. Just turn off the boob tube and go to bed! Maybe even bring your spouse with you there a little early;)

Exercise hard and often but make it fun. Join a sports team, go for hikes with your significant other, and don't be afraid to lift some iron to keep that muscle on. Vary your activities so you aren't bored and going through the motions.

In summary, do exactly the opposite of what all the fat people are doing and you will look and feel great.

Why and How You Should Drink Tea if You Get Headaches, Migraines, and Stress...

,
Paleo Drinks :

Many people have heard and seen the many advertisements about tea and its various cures and benefits. Along with weight loss, cancer fighting, and other cellular benefits curing Headaches and Migraines while reducing stress is among the top advertised. But when I see these ads, I think Why?

Why and How You Should Drink Tea if You Get Headaches, Migraines, and Stress...

After drinking tea for a while, including Green Tea, Oolong Tea, Rooibos, Lemongrass, and a wide listing of organic herbal blends, I have found that I don't really know if I am fighting cancer inside my body. But I do know that tea can greatly help me to balance out a stressful time, and help get rid of and prevent headaches.

Simply drinking tea, especially some of the herbal blends specifically mixed for the occasion, can help with headaches, and you will receive all other benefits from the actual tea itself. But only drinking the tea in itself will not allow you to fully maximize all the potential, especially in regards to headaches and migraines. Because not always, but sometimes, drinking tea is about Drinking Tea.

I drink tea all day long. Cup after cup (Thank you, Tea Stand) I drink with no sense of traditional practice, or religious afterthought. I just drink it. But when I have a headache (from stress, sinus headache, caffeine, or many other reasons), just drinking tea isn't always best. That is when my tradition comes out.

I don't use special pots, or time honored traditions. There is nothing wrong with them, but I rarely have time for that, and growing up in the United States, there are no time honored tea drinking traditions. I always used tea bags (low quality as they were my only option, and didn't know any better). So now, even though I am closer to tradition, I still do not have time for this. My Headache/Stress tea drinking practice takes less than five minutes. Usually, that is all the time I have (which is mostly why I have the headache in the first place).

I begin with the double chamber gourmet tea bag. High quality loose tea, easy to use tea bag, reusable; three of the reasons why. I rough it up a little to make the tea inside spread out, and then I put the bag into my mug. With the tea bag ready I pour steaming hot water over it. A little bit too hot to drink. When the cup is full, I bob the tea bag in and out of the water for a minute or so, and let it site for a minute (maybe, depending on how strong I want the tea, how many times have I used the tea bag already, etc.) When letting the tea bag sit, I wrap the string around the mug handle and anchoring it with the bead at the end. After the tea is ready, I take the tea bag out of the cup, and hang it on my tea stand. With green teas and Oolong teas, this is especially important. If you leave the tea bag in the cup too long it can get very bitter.

Now that my tea is ready ( a process which took maybe two minutes) I am ready to relieve myself from this nagging headache. With the cup still steaming, I cup my hands around the mug and slowly breath in the steam. Slow, deep breathes. I do this three to five times, or until the tea has cooled down a little so that I can begin drinking it. It is still hot, but I won't burn my tongue or lips if I drink it. Then I take small slurping sips. The hot water is important not only for the steam but also for these first few sips. The hot water slows down your drinking, and also helps to clear out your head. After a couple minutes of this I am generally feeling better.

Maybe this 5 minute practice is loosely based on tradition, and doesn't sound too complicated, but it helps me. I am sure that all in this hectic world can appreciate 5 minutes where life is slowed down and especially a tradition that is fast, easy, and that really helps to get alleviate life's little inconveniences; headaches, migraines, and stress.

How To Lose Weight, The Straight Facts

,
Paleo Drinks :

How To Lose Weight - Why is there so much confusion? It seems like every single day, the next BIG diet comes out. At the same time, the next "scientific breakthrough" fitness machine comes out. Enough is enough. Here are the simple facts.

How To Lose Weight, The Straight Facts

There are 2 major components that you need to keep in mind when it comes to losing weight. They are calories in, and calories out. If you take in more calories then you are burning, you will gain weight. If you are burning more calories than you are taking in, you will lose weight. Simple enough? OK, now let's look at how to lose weight, focusing on these 2 aspects or our lives.

When it comes to calories that you are taking in, that obviously has to do with the nutritional aspect of fitness. On the other hand, when you are talking about burning calories, now we are looking at your physical activity level, mainly your exercise. While changing one of these should impact your weight, the key to getting real results is combining the 2.

How To Lose Weight - Nutrition
I have never been one for counting calories. I think that is a tedious task, and I always felt bad for people that had to do it. As I have gained experience in fitness field, I have developed my own philosophy on this topic. I think that when a person decides that they are ready to lose weight, they need to really look at the calories that they are taking in now, before they start to change their diet. By having an idea how many calories you are consuming now, you can make the right changes to help you reach your goals. Once you have that number, set a "goal" calorie count. Do not just cut your calories in half, or suddenly eliminate everything bad from your diet. 99% of the time that people try this, they get frustrated, and before you know it, they are right back to eating fatty, high calorie, heavily processed foods, and their weight is going no place but up. If you really want to know how to lose weight, do it in stages. If you are taking in 3,000 calories a day right now, cut down to 2500 for a few days, and then 2,000 in a week or so. The following week, cut it down to 1500, and so on. Some people get dangerously low with their calorie intake, and end up not getting the key nutrients that their body needs to stay healthy. Do not make that mistake.

Food To Eat To Lose Weight
Here is a basic guide of what to eat, and what to avoid. There is no magic ingredients, just basic rules to follow. Avoid foods that heavily processed, high in sugar and fat, and that lack nutritional value. When it comes to breads and pasta, pick whole wheat over white. When it comes to milk, stay away from whole. If its fried, don't eat it!

Eat your greens! Vegetables are not only low in calories, but they are high in nutrients, and most are low on the glycemic index (which means that they keep you feeling full longer, keep your blood sugar level, and many more benefits). If you can, eat a salad a day. Drink water, lots of water. Eat lean meats, such as fish, chicken and turkey. Keep the red meat to a minimal, but if you love it, do not totally eliminate from your diet. A lot of vegetarians will tell you that the secret is no meat. Well, try telling that to the paleo's, who's diet is mainly meat, and they insist it is the best. The truth is, the reason both work is that they cut the garbage out of their diets. In short, use your head. If you think it might be bad for you, it probably is.

Exercise To Lose Weight
People can argue day and night about which kind if exercise is best. People use this as an excuse to not exercise, saying that they don't want to do the wrong thing. The key is to get out there and get moving. When you look at the scientific evidence, you are going to burn the most calories by doing total body moves, preferably with resistance, or doing intervals with your cardio. If you do not know where to begin, start jogging! Can't jog yet, walk, swim, ride a bike, do something. The more that you do, the more calories that you will burn.

How to Lose 10 Pound in 3 Days - The Real Solution!

,
Paleo Drinks :

Want to lose 10 pounds in 3 days? Want to do it in a way won't leave you feeling like crap? Then forget about gimmicky "3 day diets" based around unhealthy foods like hot dogs and saltine crackers. Follow the healthy weight loss program outlined below and you can easily lose 5-10 lbs, and several inches, within just 3 days.

How to Lose 10 Pound in 3 Days - The Real Solution!

Note: It's not really possible to lose 10 pounds of pure body fat in 3 days time. About 80% of the weight you lose will be "water weight"... weight loss that comes from a reduction in fluids and waste products. Still, if you follow the tips outlined below, you will almost certainly be several pounds lighter after just a few days.

Step 1: Do a 24-hour lemon water fast.

For the first 24 hours, do a simple fast to flush extra waste and toxins from your body quickly and easily. Consume nothing but lemon water -- pure spring or filtered water with fresh lemon or lime juice squeezed into it. Try to drink about a gallon during the 24 hour period. Fresh lemon (and lime) juice is extremely healthy and has incredible cleansing, detoxing, and energy-boosting properties. Plus it taste great.

Step 2: Eat a "100% paleo" diet.

For the next 2 days, eat a diet based solely around whole natural "paleo" foods. These are the unprocessed foods found in nature that your body is designed to thrive off of. They include lean meats, fish, eggs, fresh vegetables, raw fruits, raw nuts, and raw seeds. These foods will give you all the quality protein, "good" carbohydrates, and healthy fats you need to lose pounds while maintaining high energy and generally feeling great.

Step 3: Walk for an hour each morning.

First thing each morning, before your first meal, go out for a one-hour walk. Keep the pace relatively fast and make sure you've broken a sweat within at least the first 20 minutes. If you've been exercising and have some base conditioning, throw in some jogging or even some short wind sprints if possible. Few things help you shed pounds like fast walking and running, and if you exercise first thing in the morning you'll be more likely to burn stored fat for energy.

Want to learn more about how to lose 10 pounds in 3 days... and up to 10 pounds of pure fat in under a month? Then be sure to visit the link below!

Safe and Effective Ways to Lose Weight Quickly

,
Paleo Drinks :

We have all had times in our lives when we needed to lose a few pounds quickly. Whether it's just in time for your high school reunion, your wedding, a hot date, or a vacation on the beach, sometimes we just need a kick start to our weight loss regimen to reach our reduction goals fast. But don't be taken in by fad diets or supplements that promise the impossible. If you want to get rid of a few extra pounds, try these quick, effective and safe methods.

Safe and Effective Ways to Lose Weight Quickly

Fasting/Cleansing

Many people find that by fasting for as short a period as one day, their body's metabolism seems to speed up while the stomach shrinks and that makes it easier to lose weight via a sensible diet in the following days.

Back in the old days, it was common for dieters to go for days with nothing but a few drinks of unflavored water. Today we know that it is not necessary. As long as you sip on clear liquids, there is no reason you can't provide a bit of fuel for your body in the form of a hot lemon toddy with honey, herbal tea, vegetable broth or chicken stock - and that makes it easier to get through a 24-hour cleanse. Dr. Oz has a 3-day cleanse program that allows you to eat quinoa for breakfast and soup for lunch and that is another option for a completely safe way to cleanse your body.

Whole Foods Diet

Often referred to as the Paleo Diet, a whole foods approach to eating allows you to lose weight naturally. The key is in eating foods that are as close to possible as their natural state. That means focusing on fruits, veggies, nuts and whole grains. You don't have to follow a strictly vegetarian or even vegan diet, but let's face it - it is difficult, if not impossible, to eat animal fats, meat and dairy products in their natural state because most of them are subject to some form of processing before they get to the supermarket shelf.

Besides, we need far less protein on a daily basis than we've been led to believe. Nuts, seeds and grains are excellent, low-fat sources of protein sufficient to fuel even a bodybuilder's daily workout regimen.

FIR Technology

A completely safe way to lose several pounds in as little as an hour is to use the power of Far Infrared Ray (FIR) technology. The application of a body wrap that utilizes FIR technology in a salon is easy, efficient and quick; in just one lunch hour you'll see dramatic effects.

FIR works by heating the molecules in your body which, in turn, make you sweat. As you sweat, all manner of noxious toxins are released from your body. The organs responsible for producing sweat are doing hard work and this burns calories. Rather than making your body's fat melt away, Far Infrared Rays break it down into fatty acids your muscles use for energy.

If you've got a few pounds that need to come off now, start with a 24-hour cleanse, then graduate to a sensible diet of whole foods. Use just one lunch hour to treat yourself to a FIR technology body wrap at your local tanning salon (with the added bonus of relaxing your muscles, alleviating joint pain and reducing the appearance of cellulite) and you'll be sure to lose weight quickly but safely.

Avoid the 5 Mistakes That People Make Before They Start Exercising For the First Time

,
Paleo Drinks :

Making the decision to start exercising again after taking some time off can sometimes be hard - especially if your level of conditioning is low. Many people just begin exercising, with no clear idea of why they started in the first place. They just think to themselves "I better get to the gym" or "Have my pants shrunk? I better start exercising." Don't rush into it though. You could find yourself frustrated or injured before you know it by starting too fast and not planning out what you are doing.

Avoid the 5 Mistakes That People Make Before They Start Exercising For the First Time

Would you start building a house without a plan? Of course not! So don't start an exercise program without planning it out first. Many people start exercising first without planning and it leads to frustration, injury and ultimately failure. Don't let that happen to you. Avoid the five mistakes people make before they start exercising for the first time.

Mistake #1: Setting Unrealistic Goals

Have a goal in mind of why you are starting to exercise. It could be to lose fat, to gain muscle, greater endurance or more strength. But whatever it is, make it realistic. If you haven't exercised in five years and decide that you are going to run a marathon (NOT recommended by the way!), don't try and do it on the first day! You'll get really sore or hurt and give yourself a reason to quit.

Instead make small, achievable goals that you can use like stepping stones. These will build up your confidence and give you some positive reinforcement. Accomplishing these little goals help you build momentum towards the ultimate goal of getting in better shape!

Mistake #2: Lack Of A Nutrition Plan

This is a biggie. Huge. It is probably given the least amount of planning. Not having a plan here will make you wonder why all that exercising isn't making any difference. It's because you can't out exercise a bad diet. If garbage goes in, garbage comes out. If you don't get the proper nutrition all the exercise in the world won't help you. By the way, following the latest fad diet that you saw on Oprah doesn't count either!

Nutrition will make up about 75% of your results. You have to make real changes to what you are eating in order to increase your health and fitness. If what you are currently eating is not helping you lose weight, gain muscle or making you healthier STOP DOING IT! Go talk to a dietitian, go Paleo or cut out the carbs. Make a plan, follow it and give it time. If your goal is to lose weight then aim to lose 1-3 pounds a week. Make a lifestyle change that will have a lasting impact on your health - not just a "diet."

Mistake #3: Only Doing Cardio

People make this mistake all the time because doing it is easy. You go to your local Globo-Gym and get on a StairMaster and go at the same speed for 45 minutes. Or you run around the block five times after work and tell people you had a great workout. Cardio is important but it is only one part of the exercise program - not the whole program!

You have to lift weights and stretch too to get all the benefits of exercising. Lifting weights correctly can also act as the cardio workout. You can use free weights, machines, body weight exercises, kettlebells or a host of other exercises to get stronger. Don't just do cardio. So stretch and lift weights. You'll get stronger and change your body faster.

Mistake #4: Trying To Do Too Much Too Soon

Here's another common thing. You start exercising on Monday and do exercises that you haven't done before. When you wake up on Tuesday, your body is so sore that you can't get out of bed. Then you take off a day to recover but the soreness doesn't go away. All of a sudden a week has passed and you've only worked out one time! You're not going to break any world records on your first day back so don't try and do too much.

If you haven't exercised in long time you have to ease into it to start. Exercise every other day, use light weights combined with high reps and walk before you run. Listen to your body and be smart. Make the most of the workout that you are doing but don't try and work every muscle you have every time you exercise! Focus on a couple different muscle groups each workout. Rome wasn't built in a day and you won't get buff after one workout so ease into it. Once you have a good base built then ramp it up!

Mistake #5: Going About It On Your Own

Many people don't have the self-discipline or the motivation to do it all by themselves. Doing it alone can sometimes be a good thing but not here. If you are alone you will make up hundreds of excuses to delay it, give up and quit. Or you'll waste your time doing silly things that you think are making you progress but in reality aren't. And there won't be anyone there to tell you it's not working.

Hang out with people who have an interest in improving their own health. Your friends that drink beer and eat chicken wings every night will bring you down! Put together a group of people who want to exercise. Share your plan with them. Then you can hold each other accountable for your results. Encouragement from a group of supporters is a great way to keep motivated. And celebrating with that group when you achieve your goals is much better than celebrating it by yourself.

So make good decisions before you start exercising again. You will dramatically improve your results. Set some realistic goals, make a nutrition plan, mix up your workouts, ease into it and get together with some like minded people will really help you succeed. I know it's a cliche but "Plan your work and work your plan." Avoid these mistakes and the results you are after can be reached safer and faster.

Super Saturated Fats

,
Paleo Drinks :

I've noticed an inspiring turn of events. People within the Paleo community are reversing Fat-Phobia.

Super Saturated Fats

Maligned since the 1970s, when questionable research steamrolled into the anti-fat movement (followed by over 30 years of progressively declining public health), Fat may be poised for a comeback.

I have noticed, however, that as much as we Paleo folk love our nuts, avocados, and olive oil, there is still some confusion over Saturated Fat. Just recently I saw a little Facebook Sat-Fat-Fear-Mongering on the part of an excellent Paleo-oriented gym. I wanted to reach out, give that gym a hug, and tell them not to be scared of their bacon and beef tallow.

According to Ph.D Mary Enig, a well-respected researcher of fats and author of Know Your Fats, fear of Sat Fat is rooted in the profiteering of the commercial cooking oil companies - the Soybean Oil Guys, among others.

While I don't see the word "conspiracy" being thrown around with regards to this subject, I tend to believe if it walks like a duck and quacks like a duck...It's probably trying to sell you Soybean Oil.

"Dietary fat, whether saturated or not, is not a cause of obesity, heart disease, or any other chronic disease of civilization."

So says Gary Taubes, author of Good Calories, Bad Calories. Taubes has spent over fifteen years on the research, evaluation, and synthesis of thousands of so-called "studies" on health and the connection between diet, obesity, and traditional health markers like cholesterol, heart disease and diabetes.

As far back as the late-1980s, results of a women's health study indicated that more fat and saturated fat consumption correlated with less breast cancer. The Nurses Health Study indicated as recently as 1999 that "for every 5 percent of saturated-fat calories that replaced carbohydrates in the diet, the risk of breast cancer decreased by 9 percent."

And yet I just listened to a radio ad extolling the virtues of a vegetarian diet (almost certainly a low-fat lifestyle) for cancer treatment and prevention.

According to Nora Gedgaudas, author of Primal Body, Primal Mind, Sat Fats from naturally-occurring sources like eggs, grass-fed animal fats and coconut oil raise "good" cholesterol, convert essential omega-3 fatty acids to EPA and DHA (essential for vision, among other things), assist in fat-soluble nutrient absorption, strengthen the immune system, and aid in normal hormone production. Our brains and the protective structure around our hearts are largely composed of Sat Fats.

And to think I spent years drinking the sugar-filled Sat Fat Haterade.

Beyond these obvious benefits, Sat Fats are extremely stable and less vulnerable to oxidation than polyunsaturated fats and even monounsaturated fats like olive oil. I almost always cook with SatFats. According to Dr. Eades of Protein Power:

"Saturated fats aren't prone to free radical attack-only unsaturated fats can be damaged by free radicals."

Eades also says that Sat Fats are "immune to heat damage. You can cook with them, you can hit them with a hammer, you can throw them on the floor and jump up and down on them. And they stay the same. Saturated fats are stable fats."

Not only am I going straight home to start hitting various foods with a hammer (Gallagher-style), I'm going to enjoy myself some eggs, scrambled up in coconut oil, with a side of bacon.

An Easy Way to Lose 3-5 Pounds Fast

,
Paleo Drinks :

Looking for an easy way to lose 3 to 5 pounds fast... in a safe, healthy manner? The rapid fat loss techniques outlined in this article are proven to help you shed pounds, reduce body fat, and lose a few inches from your waist. Next time you have an important event coming up and need to lose a little weight don't resort to starvation diets or expensive fat burners. Just follow the tips below and you'll easily lose up to 5 lbs quickly...

An Easy Way to Lose 3-5 Pounds Fast

1. Do a raw juice fast or lemon water fast.

For one or two days -- 3 days max -- do a simple raw juice or "lemon water" fast. A raw juice fast involves juicing a variety of raw vegetables and fruits and consuming these nutrient-packed beverages in place of regular foods and drinks. A lemon water fast is very simple and involves consuming only spring water with fresh squeezed lemon juice. These simple fasts are a great way to cleanse your system, detoxify your body, boost your energy, and help you lose a pound or two quickly and easily.

2. Eat a 100% paleo diet.

A "paleo" diet -- sometimes called a caveman diet -- involves eating nothing but natural, unprocessed foods. These include lean meats, fish, eggs, nuts and seeds, fruits and vegetables (especially the green leafy variety), and small amounts of starchy carbs in the form of baked potatoes or sweet potatoes. You avoid all processed foods... especially processed carbs. This is the BEST diet for losing pounds in a fast and health way!

3. Do full-body circuit training.

Two to four times a week do a short, intense, circuit training workout that involves whole-body exercises like the squat, lunge, pushup, pullup, clean, situp, etc. Try to work most of your major muscle groups in the same workout. This not only burns fat quickly, it also makes your body produce hormones that will make it much easier to lose 3-5 pounds fast!

Paleo Diet: What Is It?

,
Paleo Drinks :

Ever since this diet was launched, the question "what is the paleo diet" never ceased to be asked. So if someone asked you "what is the paleo diet?" - the answer would be: paleo diet is short for Paleolithic diet which is also known as the caveman diet. A short introduction to the paleo diet is simply that it is a diet that is based on animal nutrition established during the time of the cavemen. It is a diet so appropriate in a biological sense that it is quite astounding.

Paleo Diet: What Is It?

The paleolithic diet is not merely a diet; it is a lifestyle that gives emphasis to how our cavemen of ancestors lived and ate. In the past, our ancestors ate foods that were easy to hunt or the foods they could find easily in their location. So, the next question would be: what exactly is paleo diet of today?

If you are not getting a clearer, total understanding of this so-called scavenger diet, then this article is perfect for you to read. Basically, it is about eating what you want - any food that you want - with the only restriction that it has to be in the Paleo food list. And what are the foods belonging in this paleo food list any way?

Meat, fish, chicken, fruits and vegetables belong in the paleo foods list, but those that do not belong are legumes, dairy, dairy products and grains. Salt and sugar are also not in this scavenger diet because our ancestors didn't have the luxury of having seasonings then in their foods. Basically, they just ate whatever animal they could kill and partnered it with leafy greens.

The only liquids that are accepted in the paleolithic diet are water or coconut water. And in this diet, you are only required to drink water when you are thirsty the same way that you can only eat when you are hungry. Organic green tea is also acceptable since it is less processed and there's less sugar in it. You are not required to eat at a set time because that's not how our cavemen brothers lived in the past. They didn't live to eat at all - they ate to live.

The next question to be asked is: who are the followers of this diet?

Those people who are allergic to dairy and athletes are among the many who are avid paleo dieters. And yes, those people who want to avoid "foreign proteins" at all cost. Those who are also trying to avoid cardiovascular diseases, asthma, high blood pressure and diabetes are following the diet.

There are so many books and internet sites that are talking more and more about the paleo diet. When you have the chance to read up, definitely do, do not stop yourself from learning about the many wonderful benefits this diet can bring to you and your life.

The Paleo diet can improve your body and health in a big way --- love the men and women who once walked on this earth, follow their diet!

How Much Water Should Children Drink Each Day?

,
Paleo Drinks :

The standard recommendation of water intake for children is at least 6-8 glasses (1.5 - 2 liters) a day, drunk regularly throughout the day (at least 3-4 glasses while at school) ensuring that plenty of additional fluid is drunk during warm weather and/or when exercising. "When exercising" means before, during and after exercise and is not restricted to formal PE and games lessons, but is also applicable to active play (e.g. football in the playground or periods of running around).

How Much Water Should Children Drink Each Day?

The Institute of Medicine of the National Academies, Washington DC (2004), includes a separate category for teenage boys aged 14 over who require a higher average fluid intake of 2.6 liters (about 11 large glasses).

Pupils spend at least half their waking hours in school. During this time, they should be drinking at least half their daily requirement, spread regularly throughout the day. Readily available Water Coolers strategically placed around school premises can help to achieve these aims.

What is dehydration?

Dehydration is simply not having enough water in your body. It may result from inadequate water intake and/or from losing body water and can develop rapidly or slowly.

How can you tell if children are dehydrated?

A lot of people don't even realize they are dehydrated because they have become so used to feeling below their best.

Symptoms of mild dehydration can be difficult for teachers to spot. In class some children may become irritable, tired and less able to concentrate. By the time they get home many children are complaining of tiredness or headaches and some may be too lethargic to do anything but slump in front of the television. Although we may think of this behaviour as normal, it is now known that it may, at least in part, be due to the effects of dehydration.

Children can be taught to recognize when their fluid intake is too low as the urine becomes concentrated (small amounts of deep yellow, cloudy, smelly urine). If their urine's no darker than the color of pale straw, odorless and copious they're doing OK.

What effect does dehydration have on the brain?

Water makes up about 80% of the brain and is an essential element in neurological transmissions. Poor hydration adversely affects a child's mental performance and learning ability. Symptoms of mild dehydration may include tiredness, headaches and a feeling not unlike jet lag, as well as reduced alertness and ability to concentrate. Mental performance including memory, attention and concentration can decrease by about 10 per cent, once thirst is felt. Mental performance deteriorates progressively as the degree of dehydration increases.

Thirst is usually felt when dehydration results in 0.8 - 2 per cent loss of body weight lost due to water loss. For a 10-year-old child weighing 30kg this is equivalent to one or two very large glasses of water (300ml each), which is the amount a child could lose during a PE lesson or running around in the playground. Water consumption also has an immediate alerting and revitalizing effect. In schools taking part in the Food in Schools water provision pilot project, the consensus from teachers was that "enhanced provision contributed to a more settled and productive learning environment, as well as helping to instil good habits". The key to boosting the capacity to learn is to keep well hydrated throughout each day (ideally from a personal water bottle within arm's reach).

What are the effects of dehydration on children?

The early effects of even mild dehydration are significant for health, well being, performance and learning - and in the long term carry a higher risk of a number of health problems and disease states. These include constipation, continence problems, kidney and urinary tract infections, kidney stones, and some cancers. In some scientific studies, a decrease in cancer risk was specifically associated with water, as opposed to any other fluids.

Encouraging pupils to drink water during exams, but not during normal lessons the rest of the year?

We have heard many reports of this happening in schools. While we normally welcome initiatives to promote drinking water during the school day, doing so for just one or two weeks seems to imply that the school doesn't have concerns for the health and well being of the pupils in their care during the rest of the long school year, which, we hope, would not be the case in any school. Drinking water regularly throughout the school day makes healthier pupils who in turn make better learners. Exam results are not determined by performance on the day alone.

Children need to be adequately hydrated during all school lessons in order to maximise their learning potential. By the time a child feels thirsty, their mental performance may have deteriorated by 10% - attention, concentration and memory are all adversely affected. Furthermore, it normally takes a few weeks for bladders to adjust to an increased water intake so introducing increased water consumption at the start of exams is not very helpful! There are definite benefits to encouraging pupils to drink water during exams, not only improving performance but also helping to cool them down and reduce stress levels, but pupils should be drinking water regularly during the school day throughout the rest of the year too.

Complete List of the Super Foods

,
Paleo Drinks :

Here's a Complete List Of the Super Foods, as put together by people like Oprah's doctor, Dr. Weil, WebMD and a host of other nutritionists.

Complete List of the Super Foods

Super Foods, also known as anti aging foods, are foods high in antioxidants as well as high concentrations of crucial nutrients that have been proven to help prevent and in some cases, reverse the effects of aging.

The Super Foods are listed here:

* red wine, water, and green tea
* avocado, broccoli, onions, peppers, soy, spinach, and sprouts, hot peppers, leeks, daikon radishes
* açai, apples, blueberries, pomegranates, pumpkin, kiwi, oranges, and tomatoes
* wild salmon, turkey, eggs
* beans, barley, seeds, nuts, lentils, oats, walnuts and buckwheat
* cinnamon, dark chocolates, garlic, honey, extra virgin olive oil ("cold pressed"), sea salt, yogurt & kefir
* sea vegetables, irish moss, umeboshi plums, wheat grass, miso

The problem with this complete list of Super Foods is that they are almost entirely recognizable. Perhaps daikon radish, kefir and umeboshi plums are new to you but the rest are likely to be common foods.

Is it possible that the world's superfoods happen to be the ones we regularly eat OR could it be that the people who collectively compiled this list over time only took the time to explore within their comfort zone.

It's nice to see exotic fruits like açai, foreign fermented foods like miso and crazy vegetables like daikon radish are finally making it to the forefront. The world is a big place for all the superfoods to be concentrated here. Hopefully one day the foods we most commonly recognize will be just a small percentage of the list OR we expand our palette so they're all common place.

A High Protein Diet Plan For Healthy Weight Loss

,
Paleo Drinks :

High protein diet plans have always been popular with athletes and are now increasing in popularity among regular dieters.

A High Protein Diet Plan For Healthy Weight Loss

While normal people who do not exercise can eat moderately high amounts of protein foods, athletes and people on muscle building diets should eat at least 1 gram per lb of bodyweight in order to build muscle. A high protein diet plan is followed by bodybuilders. Bodybuilding athletes always include a high protein food source in their daily diet.

Whether you need to lose weight or want to build muscle, a diet plan with plenty of protein will help you achieve your goal. Consuming high amounts of protein and low amounts of carbohydrate allow for a slow burning of energy and maintain stable blood sugar levels. This maintains a healthy pancreas and assists in maintaining healthy weight. Whereas diets high in carbohydrates have been linked to obesity, low-carb, diets with plenty of protein have been found to support weight loss.

Protein is the fuel for muscle building. During weightlifting and intensive training, muscle tissue breaks down. In order to rebuild that tissue we need to be on a high protein diet plan. If your goal is fat loss, a high protein diet is also very important. Most high protein diets are also low in carbohydrates and saturated fats. To accelerate weight loss, you need to reduce carbohydrates and lower the calorie intake. A high protein diet plan can help you to do this. The total amount of protein consumed should be spread over 5 to 6 meals throughout the course of a day.

The times of day you eat protein foods is important. Eat protein foods at breakfast, before a work out and for your evening meal. A good higher protein diet plan will include a good, breakfast high in protein. Immediately after a work out drink a protein shake or drink to assist with quick muscle repair. A protein meal (slow digesting form of protein) before bed, might seem strange but it provides a slow release of high quality amino acids while you sleep.

Is the Paleolithic Diet Recommended for Children? Life Experience

,
Paleo Drinks :

Being raised in a family of mixed European and Cherokee ancestry, my life wasn't much different than any other person's, as far as my childhood is concerned. The only difference I noticed as I became older was the differences in foods I saw other kids eat because of my parents dietary regiment.

Is the Paleolithic Diet Recommended for Children? Life Experience

Even now, the meals we ate seem fairly normal to me. Lean meats including chicken, turkey, lamb, venison, and bison (or cow if bison was unavailable) was eaten quite often, but lots of fish, especially salmon, were common too. I even remember eating a soup made from turtle meat and rattle snake, but that was a one time thing. Eggs were eaten as breakfast items once in a great while, usually scrambled and served with acorn or sunflower flat bread and fruit.

As far as vegetables were concerned, I remember having at least a two pounds of deep-green leafy salads, mostly from watercress, stuffed down my throat each day throughout various meals. Suffice to say, regularity was not a problem in our house. We did eat lots of root vegetables contrary to your site suggests, although we did not eat a lot of potatoes. Sweet potatoes were commonly, served, more often substituted by parsley roots, celery roots, onions, green onions, and carrots. Tomatoes, cucumber, zucchini were grown in the backyard every season along with various squashes that were served on the side as well. I often enjoyed pepitos, or pumpkin seeds, although not year long since the squash season was short. Mushrooms were common, including wild mushrooms we would pick on trips up into the rocky mountains during the early summer. You haven't tasted a real mushroom until you pick them yourself.

Fruits and berries were a daily staple, especially black berries, blue berries, and strawberries. Apples, peaches, and various citrus were common. Melons were a big favorite, although only eaten on occasion. Pretty much anything that was fruit was eaten in our home.

Beans such as black beans and Lima beans were eaten on occasion, but very rarely, and often mixed in a succotash with maize. Other grains were rarely served at home due to several of us having wheat allergies. If we had a grain by itself, it was either wild rice or quinoa, but these were maybe served as a side dish once every few months. As far as breads were concerned, I remember acorns and sunflower seeds being ground up and made into various dishes like flat-breads and sun-nut butter. I later learned acorn bread wasn't a Cherokee dish, but rather a staple of the peoples from the west coast. Although all the recipes my mom followed weren't authentic, neither are carrots, being of European origin.

Dairy was never served in our home. I am not lactose intolerant and neither were my parents and brother, but milk never served a dietary or staple purpose on our home. Oddly enough, none of the women on my mom's side of the family have osteoporosis, even though they rarely, if ever, consume dairy products.

The big difference I noticed when I got older was snack foods. While other kids ate candy bars, or drank soda, I was given home made energy bars made from ground nuts, dried fruit and honey, as well as raw juices. By the time I was twelve, I must have eaten a whole forest of unsalted raw nuts. If wanted a savory snack, jerky was commonly on hand. Dried, unsweetened cranberries often ended up in everything snack related in our home, even if I didn't want them to.

There was a rule in our house that if nature didn't make it, or you didn't make it with your own hands, then you don't eat it. Tea, tea, and more tea was drank by the gallon in our house. The decaffeinated green or white was available, but my parents often sprang for the herbal varieties instead. If we wanted to sweeten our drink, raw honey was the only sweetener available. When I got older, I would save my money and buy what everyone else was eating, and I would have to sneak it into the house since my parents forbade junk food. Much to my surprise, it made me sick to my stomach.

After awhile I got used to my modified junk food diet, all the way through college - that was until a few years ago, when several minor pieces of bad news from my doctor changed my mind. I have been eating the foods my mother prepared at home for going on six years now, and I feel like I did when I was a kid. The big thing is to vary your diet, avoid processed foods and refined sugars, limit your grain intake, eat lots and lots of greens and fruits, and don't be afraid of a little honey now and then.

17 Reasons Why You Are Not Losing Weight

,
Paleo Drinks :

1. You think you're eating healthy, but aren't. Does your diet consist of a massive amount of "products"? Low-carb or not, you want to eat real food. Flagons of diet soda, plates of pure fiber in the shape of noodles, and loaves of 1g net carb "bread" do not a Primal eating plan make. You're just feeding an addiction and consuming empty calories - sound familiar? Disregard the labels and look inside for what you know to be true: this crap isn't food, and you shouldn't be eating it. It's about way more than just low-carb.

17 Reasons Why You Are Not Losing Weight

2. You're under too much stress. The stress response system is subconscious; it responds to stimuli and nothing else. Emotional stress, physical stress, financial stress, relationship stress - I hesitate to even make these distinctions, because the body does not differentiate between sources of stress. They all cause the body to produce cortisol, the fight-or-flight hormone that catabolizes muscle, worsens insulin resistance, and promotes the storage of fat. For 200,000 years, stress meant a life or death situation. It was intense and infrequent, and the cortisol release was arresting and extreme enough to improve the chances of survival. Today, our body responds to a stack of paperwork the same way. Traffic jams are like rival war bands. A nagging boss is like a rampaging mastodon, only on a daily basis. Take a step back from your life and take stock of your stress levels - they may be holding you back.

3. You need to watch your carb intake. Carbs are key, as always, especially when you've got weight to lose. Veer closer to the bottom of the curve, taking care to avoid all processed food (hidden sugars). You might also try skipping fruit.

4. You're adding muscle. I always tell people not to get hung up on the scales so much. Those things are useful - don't get me wrong - but they never tell the whole story, like whether or not you're adding lean mass. The PB will spur fat loss, but it also promotes muscle gain and better bone density. If you're feeling good but failing to see any improvements register on the scale's measurements, it's most likely extra muscle and stronger bone from resistance training. You wouldn't know that just from the bathroom scale. If you absolutely need objective records of your progress, get a body fat percentage test (although these might not even tell the whole story) or try measuring your waist.

5. You're not active enough. Are you Moving Frequently at a Slow Pace for three to five hours every week? Remember: the near-daily low-level (between 55-75% max heart rate) movement should be the bedrock of your fitness regimen. It's easy to do (because every bit of movement counts) and it doesn't dip into your glycogen reserves (making it a pure fat burner, not a sugar burner). If you're on the low end of the spectrum, crank it up toward five weekly hours and beyond.

6. You're lapsing into Chronic Cardio. Of course, you can go too far with the low-level movement - you can begin to lapse into Chronic Cardio. When you stay above 75% of your maximum heart rate for extended periods of time, you're burning glycogen. Your body in turn craves even more sugar to replenish the lost stores, so you polish off a heap of carbs, preferably simple and fast-acting. You can continue down this route if you wish - I did, for a couple decades - but you'll gain weight, lose muscle, release more cortisol, and compromise any progress you might have made.

7. You still haven't tried IF. Results vary, but if you've seemingly tried everything else, intermittent fasting can be a great tool to break through a weight loss plateau. Make sure you've fully transitioned onto a Primal eating plan and start small. Skip breakfast and eat a late lunch. If that feels okay, skip breakfast and lunch the next time. Just take it slow and pay attention to your hunger. Eventually, try exercising in a fasted state to maximize the metabolic advantage. If all goes well, your hunger won't necessarily disappear, but it'll change. A successful IF tames hunger, makes it less insistent and demanding.

8. You're eating too much. Low-carb isn't magic. It reins in wild hunger and tames insulin, but calories do still matter - especially once you approach your ideal weight. In fact, those last few pounds often don't respond to the same stuff that worked so well to get you to this point. Eating nut butter by the spoonful and hunks of cheese without regard for caloric content may have gotten you this far, but you've got to tighten things up if things aren't working. And that's the real test, isn't it? There is a metabolic advantage to eating according to the PB, but if the weight isn't coming off, something's up - and calories may need to come down.

9. You haven't overcome bad habits or developed good ones. Be brutally honest with yourself. Do you engage in bad habits? If so, identify them. Make tentative, loose plans to disengage from their clutches, and tell people close to you. Make it public, so you can't back out without losing face. You've also got to develop good ones. Follow roughly similar guidelines as when kicking a bad habit - identification, planning, publication - and you'll be on your way.

10. You haven't purged and Primalized your pantry. Out of sight, out of mind; out of reach, out of mouth. Keep the crappy junk food out of your pantry, if not out of your house altogether. Go down the list and toss the stuff that doesn't apply. As for the rest of your kitchen, check out the fridge interiors and grocery lists of some other Primal folks for inspiration.

11. You've reached a healthy homeostasis. It may be that your body has reached its "ideal" weight - its effective, genetic set point. Reaching this level is generally painless and effortless, but it won't necessarily correspond to your desired level of leanness. Women, especially, tend to achieve healthy homeostasis at higher body fat levels. Breaking through plateaus can be hard enough, but plateaus ordained by the body itself can be nearly impossible. It's probably going to take some serious tinkering with carbs, calories, activity levels, sleep, and stress. If everything else is on point and accounted for, you may be looking at healthy homeostasis. Then, the question becomes: do you want to mess with a good thing?

12. You're low on willpower. Willpower is like a muscle. It must be used or it will atrophy. You've also got to provide fuel for your will - little victories to start out. Go for a walk if you can't muster the will for the gym. Take note that willpower, or lack thereof, might actually be an indicator of your body's needs. If you truly can't muster up the will for the gym, it may be that your body needs to recover. When that's the case, overtraining is a bigger danger than lack of will.

13. You're full of excuses. If you find yourself having mini self-contained internal arguments throughout the day (and you lose), or (even worse) lying to yourself about what you're eating and doing, you're probably also full of excuses. Read this, maybe twice, then follow up with this.

14. You haven't actually gone Primal! We get a good number of new readers on a regular basis, and not all of them take instantly to the Primal concepts. And yet they come back. They read the archives, the comments. Something draws them near, while at the same time keeping them at arm's length. Why is that? What's stopping them? If that describes you, what are you waiting for? Take the plunge. Go Primal for 30 days and see how you like it. I assure you; the many enthusiastic community members are here because it works.

15. You're not getting enough sleep. Chronic levels of sleep deprivation cause the release of cortisol, our old fat-storing friend. The biggest spike in (fat-burning, anabolic) growth hormone plasma levels occurs in deep sleep. And a recent sleep study showed that truncated sleep patterns are linked to weight gain. Get seven to eight hours of sleep a night.

16. You haven't given it enough time. The Primal Blueprint is a fat loss hack, undoubtedly, but it isn't always a shortcut. Some people get instant results from dropping carbs, grains, sugar, and vegetable oils, while others have to take a month to get acclimated and only then does the weight begin to slide off. Either way, though, this is a lifestyle. You're in it for the long run. Approach it with the right mindset and you won't get discouraged.

17. You're eating too much dairy. Some people just react poorly to dairy. We see this time and time again listed in the forums; dairy just seems to cause major stalls in fat loss for a good number of folks. There are a couple speculative reasons for this. One, folks coming from a strict paleo background may not be acclimated to the more relaxed Primal stance on dairy. Reintroducing any food into the diet after a period of restriction can have unintended consequences on body composition. Two, dairy is insulinogenic, which is why it's a popular post-workout refueling tool for athletes. Does a non-strength training PBer need to drink a few glasses of milk every day? Probably (definitely) not.

Bonus Reason: Sprinting is not part of your fitness routine. I've found that many assume that they're getting everything they need from their workouts from plenty of low level aerobic activity and a couple of strength training sessions each week. Sprinting is often overlooked, but it's one of the Primal Blueprint Laws for a reason. Nothing shreds you up faster than sprinting. I'd ease into sprints if you've never done them or are extremely out of shape or overweight. That is, I recommend you have some measure of fitness aptitude before you jump into a routine. But once you're ready do 6-8 all out sprints (with short breaks between) once a week to break a weight loss plateau when all other attempts have failed.
