Best Sugar Cookie Recipe?

,
Paleo Drinks :

There is nothing like a great sugar cookie recipe. Don't buy the roll of Pillsbury Dough, you can make a superb cookie that will remind you of the days when Grandma made them.

Best Sugar Cookie Recipe?

Grandma used to sit by the fire and drink her tea and Grandpa used to sip his coffee made from his French Press, before it was trendy. I loved seeing them sit there enjoying the day. When we walked in the house there were smells coming from the kitchen you just couldn't imagine. The sweet smell of warm sugar cookies invaded your senses. You knew today was going to be a treat.

It was a tradition that we enjoyed every year. The kitchen was filled with flour storms and the counters were sticky from Buttercream frosting. We had tin cookie cutters spread all over the table. I liked the boot best, my sister liked the angel.

Grandma had a special way with those cookies and she handed down the recipe to me. I was to teach my kids how to make these wonderful holiday sweets. It wouldn't be Christmas time without this recipe of Yummy cookies.
I am publishing it because I want you to enjoy the best sugar cookie recipe ever.

Grandma's Favorite Sugar Cookie

1 cup white sugar

1 cup powdered sugar

1 cup butter

2 eggs beaten

1 tsp cream of tarter

1 tsp baking soda

1 tsp vanilla

4 cups flour

½ cup corn oil

Cream the sugars and butter together. Mix the beaten eggs, vanilla and corn oil, in. Add the dry ingredients .Mix all the ingredients well and chill overnight.
Bake at 375 F for 8-10 minutes....DO NOT OVERCOOK.

We used to make the funniest colors to decorate the cookies, most of them looked inedible. They tasted heavenly, though. We figured if we made them look gross enough, the adults would leave them alone. We were wrong. Everyone knew they were Grandma's famous sugar cookies from her handed down recipe book. This page was splattered with all sorts of colors. I have that book now. I love making these cookies with my kids.

Grandma's Favorite Frosting (don't forget the food coloring)

2 cups of powdered sugar

½ cup butter melted

1 ½ T Milk

1 tsp vanilla

Cream sugar, butter and vanilla. Add a small amount of milk (1 to 2 tablespoons). Beat until fluffy. If frosting is too sweet add a little more milk.

Try it this season. Enjoy your family and brew some wonderful tea or coffee and relax. Take the time to make memories with your family or neighbors or friends.

The Importance of a Paleo Diet Eating Plan

,
Paleo Drinks :

Are you someone who is not very new to dieting? Probably, you are one who has already tried several diets before but ended up cheating - or most likely, just quit. It is also possible that you are someone who is just starting to check out what the best diets available out there are. However, just like many, you might find yourself apprehensive and doubtful of how can you actually keep up with the diet. Are you determined enough or, at least, knowledgeable enough? If you are thinking of going for the Paleo diet plan, you should ensure that you know everything there is to know about the diet. And eventually, you should research well on how you can come up with a Paleo diet eating plan that you can keep up to.

The Importance of a Paleo Diet Eating Plan

One of the common problems that dieters face is the mere fact that they do not completely know what they're getting themselves into. Most would just start on a diet thinking that they already know everything but end up being sidetracked from their goal little by little. Most often than not, quitting is a result of an ineffective planning of meals. At some point, dieters would find that they have nothing to eat for a meal time and because they are already hungry, they would eat what food is available - with the promise that they will catch up next time. However, if such happens again, they will just realize that they are being distracted farther away from their goals. This will eventually push them to quit dieting and just go back to their old eating habits.

Moreover, "cheating" every once in a while is not totally wrong. You may have social gatherings to attend to which may obligate you to eat foods not recommended in the Paleo diet. But, as much as possible, you should plan your meals on regular days. Even if you would need to cheat, you should also ensure to watch what you eat - try to balance everything that you will put on your plate. Although you may cheat at times, it does not mean that you are allowed to binge.

In order for you to stay away from distractions as much as possible, it is best for you to plan your meals a week ahead. You can check out different Paleo recipes online or base your meals on sample Paleo meal plans. This way, you can prepare your foods accordingly - you can bring your homemade lunch in the office, snack on healthy fruit dices or nuts and drink a moderate serving of fresh juice. Moreover, if you are to attend a party on the weekend, set your mind on making a balanced plate and go back to your meal plan the day after the party.

For you to succeed in the Paleo diet and for you to reap its health benefits, it is absolutely necessary to take the time and plan your Paleo meals appropriately and strategically.

Carb Diet Cycling - Lose Fat, Not Muscle

,
Paleo Drinks :

What does Edward Cullen and Insulin levels have in common? Nothing really but you would think vampires have an appreciation for the effects of carbohydrates on blood sugar levels!

Carb Diet Cycling - Lose Fat, Not Muscle

Anyways to look as lean as Robert Pattinson does for the Twilight series, you might want to try Carb Cycling to loose fat but not muscle along the way.

So shoveling breads, cereals, and pastas into yourself as if it's a race to the finish, is not the answer.

Eating meals or snacks like this which are high in carbohydrates will send your blood glucose level into outer space.

To counter for this rapid rise, your pancreas secretes the hormone insulin into the bloodstream which lowers the levels of blood glucose.

This insulin level caused by excess carbohydrates will ultimately promote the accumulation of body fat. OOPS and that's what we don't want!

In other words, if we eat too many carbohydrates, we're sending a hormonal message to store fat.

However, regulating your blood sugar level is the most effective way to maintain your fat-burning capacity.

It also essential for good health and lowers the risk of diseases such as Type 2 diabetes and heart disease.

A delicate balance of diet, insulin production and physical activity is necessary for optimal blood glucose levels.

With the onset of modern civilisation, our physiology suddenly was asked to digest and metabolize larger amounts of sugar and starch especially refined sugars. I follow my version of the "Paleo" diet to minimise these consequences).

But if we are unable to utilise the amount of carbohydrates we eat, certain symptoms will develop.

The problem is that insulin is essentially a storage hormone, evolved to put aside excess carbohydrate calories in the form of fat in case of future famine.

Not only do increased insulin levels tell the body to store carbohydrates as fat, they also tell it not to release any stored fat.

This makes it impossible for you to use your own stored body fat for energy. The excess carbohydrates in your diet not only make you fat, they make sure you stay fat. What a Bummer!

Insulin also causes hunger. As blood sugar increases following a carbohydrate meal, insulin rises with the eventual result of lower blood sugar. This results in hunger, amazingly often only a couple of hours after a meal.

Cravings, usually for sweets, are frequently part of this cycle, leading you to resort to snacking, often on more carbohydrates.

PICK THE RIGHT CARBS

The best fuel source to use throughout the day are complex starches (carbs). These provide sustained energy minimising sugar spikes and stabilises blood sugar levels and lets your workout last longer and retain intensity.

These starches will break down slowly and the body doesn't have any chance to store body fat and rather be stored as muscle glycogen.

Complex carbs will minimise muscle catabolism (breakdown) and ensure muscle anabolism (growth).

Examples of complex carbs are; yams, sweet potatoes, wild rice, beans, legumes, red potatoes, raw oats.

These will store glycogen and convert to an energy source for your muscles, brain, heart and other organs, along with vegetables, fruit and fibrous grains provide a huge source for anabolic growth.

PRIME TIME - CARB EATING

  • Losing weight without losing muscle is related to maintain blood sugar -insulin levels.
  • Timing is important get it wrong and areas that are affected is sports performance, injury risk, feeling sluggish, increased appetite and slows metabolism.
  • Best times to ingest carbs are in the morning and before and after a workout. These are the times when your muscles need carbohydrates the most.
  • If you workout without carbs then breaking down lean mass for amino acids becomes a real possibility.

Typical Nutrition on Workout Days

Note: The time when carbs are added in the day

7am: 1 cup oatmeal with 2 scoops whey

10 am: 2 Whole eggs, 4 egg whites, 1 piece of toast

12 Noon: 200g chicken breast, 1 piece of fruit, black coffee

2pm: Pre Workout 1/2 cup cottage cheese, 1 medium sweet potato

4pm: Post Workout 2 scoops Whey with chocolate milk, handful of nuts

6pm: 1 can tuna, 2 pieces vegetables

9pm: 170g lean steak, lettuce, green vegetables

PRIME TIME - LOW CARB EATING

  • Carbs fuels your muscles to help with working out then conversely on days you are less active reduce your carb intake and let your body use the existing sugars in your blood.
  • This again is similar to carb cycling which works very well when trying to loose weight. I follow the Eat Stop Eat program to for carb cycling to loose body fat (currently at 8%).

Typical Nutrition on Non Workout Days

Note: The reduction of carbs in the day

7am: 2 scoops whey

10 am: 6 egg whites with lean chicken

12 Noon: 230g chicken breast, green tea

3pm: 1/2 cup cottage cheese

4.30pm: 1/2 cup yogurt

5pm: 1 can tuna, 1 pieces vegetables

8pm: 170g lean steak, 6 stalks asparagus

10pm: 5 hard boiled eggs

FOOD HABITS

Eating protein with each meal is one of the best ways to stabilise blood sugar levels examples are; Lean red meats, fish, chicken, eggs, legumes, nuts, seeds.

Chromium helps to normalise blood sugar levels examples are; broccoli, wholegrain cereals, nuts, mushrooms and soy beans.

Fibre slows absorption of glucose examples are; wholegrain breads and breads, brown rice, legumes, fruit and vegetables.

TIPS

  • Drinking plenty of water is another way to lower blood sugar levels.
  • Drinking at least eight glasses of water per day will also flush harmful toxins from the body, help with weight loss, and keep the skin healthy.
  • Taking Ginseng or adding Cinnamon to food has been shown to regulate blood sugar levels.
  • Never skip a meal, especially breakfast, and eat healthy snacks between meals. Eating frequently prevents hunger pangs and the binges that follow, provides consistent energy, and may be the single most effective way to maintain metabolism efficiency.
  • When you will be away from home or work, plan your snacks and take them along so that you will be able to eat regularly and won't be tempted by junk food.
  • High fibre snacks and meals also help to regulate your blood sugar level. The fibre slows down glucose absorption and your rate of digestion, keeping your blood sugar level more consistent and warding off feelings of hunger.
  • Eating apples and oranges are a better choice than drinking apple and orange juice.
  • Exercise: Try to get 30 to 60 minutes of walking in four to five days a week.
  • An easy way to lower blood sugar levels is to stay fit and healthy. Regular exercise not only helps lower blood sugar levels, but also helps fight infections.
  • Staying active and taking regular exercise can also help with blood pressure problems. Exercise also helps control the body's weight and regulate cholesterol levels.
  • This exercise does not need to be a grueling workout. Thirty minutes of exercise a day, even walking, will help to lower blood sugar levels. Walking to the store instead of taking the car is all that may be necessary to provide you with some much needed exercise. Any extra exercise, including working out in a gym.

Having a balanced diet is not only healthy but ensures that you receive the maximal amount of nutrients which ensures all your bodily functions are able to operate at their fullest potential.

Thanks you for reading this and I hope it assists with your workouts.

Simple No Bake Chocolate Macaroon Recipe

,
Paleo Drinks :

This recipe was a favorite of my sister and I. We loved it when my mom would make these. When we were old enough to cook, the house always smelled like chocolate macaroons. I think we made this recipe about a couple of times a week. They are very easy to make and super yummy to eat! Another thing I like about this recipe is that you don't use a lot of dishes, so clean-up is a breeze as well. These cookies are great if you are in a pinch and need to make something delicious in a hurry. Another great thing is the ingredient list is very short and most things I'm sure you will be able to find in your very own kitchen.

Simple No Bake Chocolate Macaroon Recipe

I hope you enjoy making these macaroons as much as I know you will enjoy eating them.

What you need to make the macaroons:

2 cups granulated sugar

1/2 cup butter

1/2 cup milk

6 tbsp cocoa

1/2 cup fine shredded coconut

3 cups oatmeal

1-2 cookie sheets waxed paper

1. Combine the first four ingredients together in a large pot and bring to a boil for about 2-3 minutes, stirring constantly.

2. Take pot off of stove and add the coconut and oatmeal. Mix until everything is coated.

3. Place on a wax paper lined cookie sheet by heaping tablespoon-fulls. To have these cookies ready quickly, cool in refrigerator, or leave and let cool to room temp.

Enjoy!

Note: You may need to double batch these cookies as they will disappear fast!!!!

All The Lies About Rapid Weight Loss Diets

,
Paleo Drinks :

Ok, I admit. It really is impossible to put ALL the lies about rapid weight loss diets in one article. There is just too much bogus nutrition information around to gather them all. But here are some of the main dieting myths to watch out for...

All The Lies About Rapid Weight Loss Diets

Like you, I wish there really were a miracle diet. "Eliminate body fat and get a great shape without effort! Never be hungry! Be healthy the whole time!" Sounds great. I'd also like to resemble [your favorite movie star] without plastic surgery.

Unfortunately, reality refuses to cater to my fantasies. Rapid weight loss diets don't have to be miserable. But there are always tradeoffs.

Some fad diets tell you to eat nothing but fruit for days, then meats and grains later. Bad idea. Lots of carbs and no protein almost guarantees weight gain.

Yeah, the advocates always have some fancy theory about why it will work, along with some questionable anecdotal evidence. Skepticism is a very good idea here.

Then there are ultra low-carb, ultra-high-protein diets like Atkins or the Paleo diet. They're not harmful, but don't go to extremes. You might see rapid weight loss at first, but it won't last. And, you may suffer other problems (like potential kidney damage).

There are even some way out suggestions, like huge amounts of chocolate. Sure, chocolate does have some good things like antioxidants. But, in most cases, the form they come in also comes with high amounts of sugar and fat.

The basic error of all these rapid weight loss diets is lack of balance. You may lose weight fast, but will you keep it off? Will you damage your health in the process?

You need a certain amount of carbohydrates. They're the body's main source of free energy. Reducing your normal intake (usually more than you need) forces the body to go after fat stored in cells to compensate. You lose body fat.

Good.

But don't go overboard. Starving yourself of carbs slows your body's metabolism down. It becomes harder to lose those subsequent pounds. Also, excess protein can cause a fluid imbalance (making it hard to flush toxins, which build up in the kidneys).

Remember, rapid weight loss, per se, isn't your goal. Gaining 10 lbs of muscle wouldn't necessarily be bad. You want to reduce pounds and keep them off. You want to keep your health while you're doing it. And, even weight loss isn't your primary goal. You want to reduce your body fat percentage, again while optimizing health.

There are plenty of ways to do that. Consume the right amounts of protein, fat, and carbohydrates - and no more. Get the right balance of vitamins and minerals. Don't use food to compensate for anxiety. Exercise moderately.

You'll shed pounds fast, reduce body fat, and get healthy before you know it.

For almost every dieter but the most sedentary, a balanced diet totaling about 1200-1600 calories per day will lead to healthy rapid weight loss.

Instead of sugary juice drinks, have an orange or apple or banana - better still, strawberries or blueberries. (The latter are rich in phytonutrients.) Keep protein in the lead (about 100 g daily), but get some good fats, too (44-78 grams or so).

That's a sensible rapid weight loss diet. No miracle diet needed. And that's no lie.

Crossfit: A Highly Effective Program For Weight Loss

,
Paleo Drinks :

In a standard workout routine you might spend 20 to 40 minutes on aerobics one day. The next day yoga might be the centerpiece with the following day abs the main area to be addressed, and the next day your upper body and so on and so on. Eventually, you'll work your way through all the muscle groups over the period of a week. A small period of time may be spent working on balance and agility, but over all, your progress will be limited and gradual.

Crossfit: A Highly Effective Program For Weight Loss

A Crossfit workout is completely different. You work every major muscle group in your body each time you work out. Routines may only last 20 or 30 minutes but they are relentless and very intense.

Now, what makes these workouts so special? Well, first there's the fact that you get a total body workout with each training session. Imagine progressively pushing every muscle in your body, 20 to 30 minutes a day, every single day of the week. You'll gain:

Strength

Power

Flexibility

Speed

Coordination

Agility

Endurance

Balance

Stamina

In just a few workouts you'll begin to notice not only the changes in your physical appearance but changes to your mental attitude as well. With standard workouts your results are much more gradual, and it could take an extended period of time before a person will notice any physical changes. Standard physical fitness routines rarely challenge an individual's constitution the way a Crossfit WOD (workout of the day) does. This normally does well for an individual's swagger or confidence giving them the feeling they can accomplish significant challenges that life may throw in their path.

A typical Crossfit routine might consist of:

Running while carrying weights followed by intense weight lifting

Running while using dumbbells, followed by jumping rope and then weight lifting

Shotgun-fast, multiple repetitions of squats, sit-ups and pull-ups

While Crossfit training is much more than a basic weight loss program, it does help to adopt healthy eating habits to speed up the weight loss process. Completely eliminating sugar from your diet is a great first step. Avoid fried foods. You should also reduce the calories you get from starches, like potatoes. The best bet is to eat plenty of green leafy vegetables, lots of nuts and seeds, and only lean meats. To discover more about healthy eating pick up a book on the Paleo Diet, which is highly endorsed by the Crossfit community. Finally, remember to drink plenty of water.

Crossfit workouts are probably the most effective workouts for weight loss because they create a fast, intense metabolic burn that makes it possible for a person's body to continue to burn fat for hours after each workout. With a Crossfit program a person will burn fat faster than they would with a standard workout routine. Add in a healthy diet and the fat burning power is drastic and almost immediate.

Eat, Sleep and Play to Be Young and Fit

,
Paleo Drinks :

People have never been fatter, sicker and weaker than they are now. Whenever I travel to the US I am blown away at how many people are fat and grossly out of shape. Canada is getting there too but seems to be a decade behind or so. I was in Walmart here in Calgary the other day and literally became worried about Western Civilization.

Eat, Sleep and Play to Be Young and Fit

Why are fat kids drinking slurpies while their parents load the grocery cart with cheap processed poison a common site now? Obesity and diabetes are epidemic in North America. Why? Unfortunately the common response to being obese seems to be taking drugs and then as a last resort surgery. It drives me crazy!

The solution to the obesity epidemic is so simple and free that I don't understand why this is even a problem. Hey, I was fat too, and after a little reading and self searching I have never struggled with my weight again. All we have to do is look back before our world changed and conspired to make us fat and weak for profit. Look back at how people lived before being 30% body fat was considered normal.

Before the industrial revolution:

Eat
People ate unprocessed foods. They did eat a lot of grains, but their grains were actually wholesome and were eaten to fill a hungry belly more than anything else. Meat was craved, and veggies were always beside them.

Do not listen to anything you ever see on TV about food, especially supposed health food. If it comes in a wrapper and has any chemicals in it, it is not healthy or natural, despite what Kelloggs and General Mills would have you believe.

I am a big believer in the Paleo diet and as a result think you should only eat what nature has provided humans for thousands of years.

Eat This:

* natural or organic meat
* tons of veggies
* some fruit
* nuts
* natural full fat yogurt
* berries
* fish, especially fatty omega-3 fish like wild salmon

Do not eat this:

* grains
- don't believe the hype, even the most natural grains are filled with phytoestrogens and phytades which actually prevent the absorption of nutrients
* milk
- it is basically chemical sugar water now, it is so far removed from what comes out of a cow that I don't think anyone should drink it
* anything processed (in a package or wrapper)
* alcohol, obviously
* sugar
- it promotes cancer in the body and actually feeds cancer cells
* corn
- it is a grain not a veggie
- corn derivatives like high-fructose corn syrup are killing our children with obesity and as a result diabetes

I should mention that nobody is perfect when it comes to eating well, especially me. The idea is to stay as true to a natural diet as possible so when you do screw up at a party you are not going to fall into a diabetic coma.

Sleep
Before TV and computers do you know what people did when it got dark? They slept! They slept for about 10 hours a day compared to our current norm of 5-7.

In fact, Sleep is so important to weight loss and physical health that preventing it was a favorite torture method of the Soviets. Your body needs sleep to recover from damage and stress, it is how you repair yourself. Forget about late night TV and go to bed early. You will lose weight and feel better almost immediately.

Did you know that Cuban Olympic weight lifters used to sleep 9 hours a day and then nap for 3 hours? I leaned that from Dan John's site. They did this to recover from the stress of training and to keep their weight down to stay competitive in their class. I actually tried this for a few weeks a while back and never felt better. It was unreal!

Exercise/Play
Imagine a world of no cars. A world where if you needed to go across town you actually walked there, even if it took a few days. Maybe you rode a horse instead, but that is still fairly physical. Not to mention that they actually had to physically work each and every day just to survive. From hunting to building to carrying things, people burned some serious calories just living. Today people sit on their asses all day and then might hit the gym for an hour or so before going back to sitting. Unless you are moving for 8 hours a day you are sedentary, so stop thinking your 3x a week gym schedule should be getting you lean!

You need to train hard and often to really be physically fit. Unless you are an elite athlete you should vary your activities as much as possible. I recommend six days a week of good solid activity and one day a week of pure rest. Our lives are incredibly sedentary so six days a week of varied activity will not be too much as long as you are sleeping and eating correctly. Before you surf along to a website that tells you it is ok to not exercise often and you can have abs too, remember that you can make exercise fun. It doesn't have to be a chore. Here is some direction:

* Sprints, 1-2 time a week
* Lift heavy stuff, 3 time a week
* Lift light stuff for high reps, 2-3 times a week
* Long slow cardio, hiking or biking, not jogging, 1 time a week
* Play, 1-4 times a week
- sports, goof around on a jungle gym, just have fun with your workouts!
* Take the stairs
* Walk or bike to work
* Go for a walk at lunch time
* Find excuses to exercise without exercising!

To sum it up, being healthy and looking like it too is really simple.

Eat a diet consisting of natural foods that are high in nutrition and low in empty calories.

Sleep as much as possible, 10 hours is a good start. Just turn off the boob tube and go to bed! Maybe even bring your spouse with you there a little early;)

Exercise hard and often but make it fun. Join a sports team, go for hikes with your significant other, and don't be afraid to lift some iron to keep that muscle on. Vary your activities so you aren't bored and going through the motions.

In summary, do exactly the opposite of what all the fat people are doing and you will look and feel great.
